Unity's Beginnings
Unity Evangelical Lutheran Church was officially recognized over a century ago on April 19, 1914. The church was started by a breakaway faction from St. Mark’s who wanted to worship in English. Services were held in several spaces including above Bader Drugstore and the Old Brooklyn Post Office before the current church existed. The church’s cornerstone was set in early 1917. On January 27, 1918, the basement was completed and the first services were conducted onsite by Reverend R.G. Long who was the permanent resident pastor from 1915-1950. In the mid-1950s, an education center was added to the grounds.
Our Pastor
Pastor Peeter Pirn was ordained at Unity on July 8, 2007 after studying at Condordia Theological Seminary.
“Pastor Pirn is the Godly pastor of Unity Lutheran Church. He spends a great deal of time with the younger and also the more mature members of the congregation. He is a high-energy person who cares deeply about his church, and he is a true blessing to Unity. His sermons are outstanding as is his character. Often Peeter can be found on the basketball court, mentoring the youth in the community. If you visit Unity, I believe you will be blessed.” Lembit Ruutelmann
